- What was the purpose of materiality in their projects and what was ‘lost’? Explain his position in similarities/ contrast with your position.
The materiality of their project is to keep the nature as most of their buildings are a mixture of tradition and new.The lost is basically taking about losing the common people and losing the common life to the high res living and building as it lost its originality of culture of the area as there is a conflict in the reality and the history.
- Why is ‘locality’ necessary? Is it necessary? Explain his position in similarities/contrast with your position.
Locality is important as the history wont be totally demolished and the space doesn't lose its originality. i think it is not necessary to lose the locality as i can relate as most designs are formed and build from the surrounding and the past. As most of the unique designs are from the traditions.
- Select 2 of his projects in the lecture and argue against with your design philosophy.
For museum he likes to keep it traditional as the meaning of museum is time and memory and his building master class is the opposite as the design is not directly from the Chinese tradition but is build through traditional materials like bamboo and timber and earth. As most of his design is usually in parallel of the old and new.
