Define and explain the various modes and consequences of ‘Torture’. Consider the application of your discussion in relation your local or Singaporean context.
- Singapore is big and very strict when it comes to punishments when breaking the law even from small crime like littering to big crimes to kidnapping, this keeps the society in control as of that they implement punishment from young for example school caning in Singapore for discipline for example if the kid did something wrong the next thing after warning is caning that is the severe punishment. Though it is to bring discipline and to teach a lesson for the kid sometimes it leads to bigger consequences. One of the biggest consequence of "Torture" is of course the long term psychological problems faced for example trauma, anxiety, depression and more along with physical problems which are pain.

Discuss and explain the various instruments that may be used to ‘Punish’ and consequences of ‘Punishment’ of the soul and the body. Is there a ‘gentle punishment’?
- one of the popular instruments used in Singapore for punishment is cane. Cane is not only used in big criminals but is also used by parents to correct and discipline their child when he/she does something wrong. Though sometime punishments does teaches some lesson like said in the previous question it causes psychological and physical problems too as sometimes punishment causes resentment and rarely teaches a child what you want him to learn. As now in Singapore educational context punishments have gone way softer compared to the methods used last time to correct kids as most of the measures has gone verbal instead of physical.

- The idea of being watched is in Singapore too which is none other then CCTV cameras which are almost everywhere from lift lobby to classrooms as though this seems like our actions are being watched all the time like it is invading our privacy but it is also for safety and security reasoning so it can be both good and the bad.

Coming to a more modern context, not only in Singapore but also in other countries I feel that social media as an another example of panopticon as out actions and shares are in public view, and it exposes us to a kind of virtual panopticon. As out activities are not only been seen by many people but it is also being monitored and recorded by the social media service for market analysis and advertising purposes which leads to our activity being seen and recorded by others.

- As said in the previous answers this two images shows the idea of discipline which is taken quite seriously in Singapore as discipline is implemented from young in Singapore in schools and at home too and as we all know the one thing which our parents use to punish us is either a ruler or rattan cane as the punishing instruments though it is not fully right to punish us as there can be some consequences too but the reason for these punishment is for them to guide us in the correct path like the second image with the tree which is tied together with another straight stick like shown in the image above as parents believe that in order for the kids to go in the correct path they need proper guidance and discipline to will be stuck in them as a reminder.
